When Al isn’t reading comics, he’s on his computer. If he’s not programming, then he’s surfing for the latest comic or technology news, always trying to stay on the cutting edge. Al first met Kyle in grade school, when they accidentally bumped into each other, mixing up their comic collections. Al ended up with Kyle’s issue of Flash and Kyle ended up with Al’s Batman. They’ve been fast friends ever since. Al always figured he’d lead the sad life of a lonely programmer until the day he met The Gnome. Their first date was seeing Jurassic Park III and their first kiss was after an all-day Planet of the Apes movie marathon. It was a match made in Metropolis. Hawaiian shirts are Al’s signature style, one he feels complements his goatee - his constant companion for almost 10 years.

All Kyle ever wanted was to be a superhero. When he was young, he spent his time trying to find where his mother hid her costume and the entrance to his dad’s secret lair. He was certain that his parents had to be superheroes, for who else would train him to continue the Fight against Evil? During the summer, he would ride his bike back and forth from the city docks to the chemical plants, patiently waiting for a tanker truck to overturn, splashing him with the radioactive chemicals that would grant him Phenomenal Cosmic Power. When he first met Al, he was overjoyed, not because he found a new friend or someone who could share his love of comics, but because after all this time - finally - he had found his Robin. From then on the two were nigh inseparable, causing mischief, and planning on their rise to glory. Kyle prides himself on his extensive comic collection as well as his wardrobe of comic-related shirts perfect for every occasion.

The Gnome is a very special woman since she seems to be the only one who can interact with Al and Kyle without getting completely sucked into their insanity. She and Al met her last year of high school and have been inseparable ever since. Short in stature, she was christened with the nickname of Gnome in college and it stuck to such a degree that neither Al nor Kyle refer to her by her real name (if they even remember what it is). The Gnome loves to cook and make sure that people are well fed, a trait that Al & Kyle gladly reap the benefits from. While she is definitely not as eccentric as Kyle or Al, she clearly has her own quirks. Her penchant for wearing a cape has become so commonplace that neither Al nor Kyle notice it, nor remember why she started wearing one.
