Cleanliness of the Dead

Some people have weird habits.

Today is the second Wednesday of the New 52, so I thought I’d give a few thoughts on each of the books before I get my hands on the first issue.

Batman and Robin - This book is a little shocking in it’s inclusion in the New 52, mostly because I felt it was created as a Grant Morrison vehicle and nothing else, but I’m very interested to see Tomasi’s take on the Bruce/Damian dynamic, especially since the preview shows Bruce might actually be acting as Damian’s father, not his Batman.

Batwoman - Everyone knows this book will be good. I don’t know how it will fit into the New 52, mostly because it wasn’t specifically created for the New 52. Another odd piece in the puzzle.

Deathstroke - This book has neither Ravager or Nightwing, two of the more interesting characters when dealing with Deathstroke, and a villain book is very hard to do in the long term. This book is starting from a disadvantageous position, I hope Kyle Higgins is up to the challenge.

Demon Knights - This book’s one of the ones I’m most excited about. Paul Cornell is at his best when writing the unconventional, and I can’t think of a more unconventional book than this. Sword and Sorcery and Superheroes, I can’t think of a better combination.

Frankenstein: Agent of Shade - Jeff Lemire is another writer that has a niche, and I’m happy DC was able to find a book that fits his style. DC used the Frankenstein Flashpoint tie-in as a proof of concept for the book. It’s looking good, I just hope it produces the numbers to get the treatment I deserve.

Green Lantern - Geoff Johns… Writing Green Lantern… There isn’t much to say that hasn’t been said. I will say the fact that a lot of continuity has been reset, yet GL is just trucking along like nothing has changed seems odd.

Grifter - Who is Jake Ellis? has gotten rave reviews, so I’m happy DC gave him a book. I don’t know what to expect, but it’s a book to watch, that is for sure.

Legion Lost - Fabian Nicieza is a writer I’ve come to enjoy, but I’m unsure of how much I’ll enjoy this book. The scope of Legions lost in time seem limited at best.

Mister Terrific - I think Eric Wallace is a good writer, but he needs room to run. This book, and the fresh start, might be the chance he needs.

Red Lanterns - Another book with a limited scope more suited to a mini series. I love the Red Lanterns, but I have no clue what they will do for 12 issues, 24 issues, 36 issues.

Resurrection Man - I have no interest in this book, but I’m trying to give every book a chance.

Suicide Squad - This book scares me. I love all the characters that they’ve announced to be in it, but nothing I’ve heard about fills me with warm fuzzy feelings.

Superboy - I love Superboy, and I have since he came on the scene back during the Reign of the Supermen. He’s been a ridiculous character who has evolved from writer to writer as the times change. This seems like a reset, but it’s just another evolution of the character. And the inclusion of Rose Wilson and Fairchild in this book doesn’t hurt either.
