Harsh Mistress

It's time for more Hobo Justice.

One of the things from DC's November solicitations that might have slipped by some people (your's truly until Kris pointed it out) is that Rose Wilson makes her appearance in Superboy #3. At least, she's mentioned by name in the solicitations, but since she's listed as Superboy's "handler" it's reasonable to think that she will be in issues #1 and #2. Rose is one of the people on our short list of Missing Heroes that we really enjoy who haven't yet been mentioned in regards to The New 52.

It's also really interesting that Rose is making her reappearance in the pages of Superboy. After hearing this, I wonder if the flirtations between Connor and Rose at the end of J.T. Krul's run on Teen Titans has a portent of the deeper relationship he knew would be coming in the future. Anyway, it's interesting that Rose is showing up in Superboy instead of Deathstroke, since in the current continuity she is Deathstroke's daughter. However, there's a couple of interesting things about that;

  • It's been stated that Deathstroke has no family. Initially, Kris and I assumed that this meant Rose had been wiped out of existence from this timeline, much to our dismay.

  • Only the first solicitation has referred to Deathstroke as Slade Wilson, after that it's all about the legend and not the man.

  • We've never seen any images of Deathstroke without his mask so we know nothing about him from either his age, ethnicity, or anything. We all think that it will be the grizzled old man that we know, but we currently have no way of knowing that for certain.

  • We do know that Superboy is supposed to be a clone of Superman, just as he was in the original storyline. Why he was cloned or how the cloning occurred (whether he shares DNA with Lex Luthor for example, if Lex even exists).

The solicitations for Superboy #3 mention that in this episode Rose finds out she's closer to the origin of her assignment then she imagined. This could mean that the human DNA used for Superboy came from her (creepy), but I think it has a much more interesting meaning. We know that Rose is not Slade Wilson's daughter as he as no children, but what if she's his clone? What if the same project that created a clone of the first superhero also tried to make a clone of the world's deadliest super villain? I'm proud to say that this idea completely blew Kris's mind. It's rare that he stares at me slack-jawed in awe of my brilliance (as opposed to my idiocy) and I treasure every moment of it.

In a completely unrelated note: What the Hell, HP? You're in the tablet space for 49 days, have what had the potential to be the best rival to the iPad given the time to polish yourselves, and you give up already? What are you thinking?

Travis, what's on your pull list?

Kris, what's on your pull list?
