Lazy Sunday

The Gnome and I relaxed today which we haven’t done in a while.

While the October solicitations announced so far have not been earth shattering, other than a couple of additional mini-series announcements, they have definitely reassured Kris and I that The New 52 will not be a complete disaster. Kris isn’t 100% sold and is starting to pull more non-DC books, looking for things to read if he decides to jump ship, but overall there are plenty of things there that look interesting.

What’s been most interesting to me is how Kris is now excited about the Frankenstein: Agent of Shade book. I’ve been excited about it since it was originally announced because “Hello, it’s Frankenstein beating up bad guys.” That was before I actually read Morrison’s Seven Soldiers of Victory Frankenstein mini-series and then fell in love with DC’s take on the giant green monster. If I recall correctly, Kris scoffed at my excitement and declared that Frankenstein would be one of the first books cancelled in the new universe. That was before the Flashpoint: Frankenstein & The Creatures of the Unknown book had come out. Now two issues in to Lemire’s take on Frank and Kris is enjoying it as much as I am. I think the most interesting segment to watch in The New 52 is the reception of these non-superhero books. If a large part of the Dark and Edge books succeed, then I think that DC might have tapped into a bright idea.
