Daunting Tasks

Kris and I use a Google Docs spreadsheet as a comics database. We try our best to keep it updated, but things tend to slip through the cracks. Now that Kris has broken 3000 issues, he decided it was time to cull through everything and make sure the database was up-to-date. It was a daunting task with a high risk of distraction. Fortunately, we were able to soldier through and every comic is now properly documented.

Peter Jackson is busy beginning filming of the first of the two part The Hobbit movie, that will hit theaters in December of 2012 and 2013. Everybody’s starting to gear up for San Diego Comic Con and the Hobbit camp is no exception. So far they’ve released promo images the dwarves of the Company. So far we’ve seen Nori, Ori, and Dori as well as Oin and Gloin. The Gnome saw the pictures of Oin and Gloin and immediately commented that they looked like Gimli from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Considering that Gloin is Gimli’s father, it sounds like they’ve nailed the family resemblance.

After the great success of the first season of A Game of Thrones, HBO is hard at work on the second one. This week they’ve announced they’ve cast Brienne of Tarth. Brienne is one of my favorite characters from the book series and while she’s only in the next book briefly, it’ll be great to see her on screen. Like a large chunk of the Game of Thrones cast, they picked a fairly unknown actress, but at 6-foot-3, Gwendoline Christie definitely has the physical stance to fill the role. In related news, the next volume of A Song of Fire and Ice, A Dance of Dragons comes out on Tuesday. I’ve already pre-ordered it and iBooks should be downloading it immediately. Fortunately, The Gnome will be busy with school work so I’ll get to read it first. Victory is mine!
