Parental Continuity

Travis This weekend is Father’s Day and we at Ret-Conned HQ have been talking about Superman in the DCnU, so it only made sense to combine them into a comic.
One of the things that we really think DC is hoping to fix in the DC reboot is the whole Superman lawsuit with the families of Siegel and Shuster. I’m no lawyer, but it might be that if they change the Superman character just enough they could say that it’s a new character or a derivative enough that the lawsuit no longer applies to future works. Lois Lane and Clark Kent’s life at the Daily Planet are part of the contested Superman origin. There’s been rumors, obliquely confirmed by Dan Didio, that Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s marriage would be dissolved in the reboot so that Superman could have a relationship with Wonder Woman. From the solicitations, we have no evidence that Superman has an alter ego named Clark Kent nor that Lois Lane even exists.
The Green Lantern movie comes out this weekend and the reviews are starting to come in. The reviews are bad, like really really bad (Major Spoilers). Kris and I talked about it and have decided that based on what we’ve heard the movie is going to be more upsetting then enjoyable. We’re not even sure that it’ll be bad enough to mock, just bad. We’re just going to move on and not worry about it. Granted, even with all of the bad press we expect it’ll still be a prety successful film, financially. We’ll find out in a couple of days if the bad press has any impact.
Travis, what’s on your pull list?
- Batgirl #22 - Any story that gives us more Squire is a-ok in my book. Squire + Stephanie Brown? Please sir, may I have some more?
- Cinderella: Fables are Forever #5
- Darkwing Duck #13
- Deadman & the Flying Graysons #1 - Death definitely changes people.
- Legion of Doom #1 - I was thinking about this book because I like crazy ?Heatwave. Once I heard that this writer is doing the new Suicide Squad book, I definitely needed to check it out. Pretty solid story, didn’t disappoint.
- Tiny Titans #41 - Yayy Blue Beetle!
Kris, what’s on your pull list?
- Batgirl #22 - Good issue, but now I might actually have to buy Batman, INC.
- Batman #711 - I like the story, but the execution and art leave something to be desired. I also hate Daniels’ portrayal of Riddler.
- DC Comics Presents JLA Black Baptism #1 - Magic and the JLA, awesome.
- Deadman & the Flying Graysons #1 - Krul can write Dick Grayson, even in a different world.
- Gladstone School for World Conquerors #2
- Grodd of War #1 - Silly, but fun. I almost wish it was a mini.
- Legion of Doom #1 - Heatwave is one of my favorite characters.
- Legion of Super-heroes #14
- Power Girl #25 - This issue just makes me sad. I wish I knew what was going to happen to Power Girl and the JSA in Sept.
- Supergirl #65
- Superman/Batman #85
- Teen Titans #96 - Krul makes a good story, but this book is just lazy.
- Tiny Titans #41 - Always a joy, but Blue Beetle and his backpack are awesome.
- Wonder Woman & the Furies #1 - The best Flashpoint book, with the possible exception of Batman. But this gets the top spot because it directly affect the Flashpoint story.
