Hard of Hearing

We spent all weekend at Comicpalooza 2011 and had a blast. This is the second year we’ve gone and it was really cool to see how much the con has grown. Like last year, it was held at the George R Brown Convention Center (the Houston area’s biggest convention center) and the space that last year’s convention was held in held only a third of the convention this year. We really enjoyed checking out the fun cosplayers and even got our pictures with some of them, even if we made them uncomfortable in the process.

The Superboy was a walking advertisement for a group that was selling some really nice costumes. His was definitely a great example of their skill:

Kris and Superboy

Just as the comic says, Kris totally misheard what Superboy asked next, which led to this great awkward photo. We all thought it was a little weird, but when Superboy asks you to do something you better do it. Sorry it’s a little blurry. I was laughing too hard to keep it in focus.

Point At My S

The back and forth between Kris and Superboy clarifying what “S” he was referring to was hilarious. Finally, they got things straightened out.

The Other S

You can click through on any of those pictures to get to our Flickr feed and see them embiggened.

Last Comicpalooza we bought a ton of comics, but we weren’t able to get that many this year. Most of the shops selling comics were only selling Silver or Bronze age comics, which is cool for the old-school collector but a little older than the stuff we were looking for. Most of the places that were selling newer stuff had them badly organized. It’s really hard to find a particular issue of Batman when issues aren’t in alphabetical order. I did find both the single issue I was missing from the Prey storyline of Legends of the Dark Knight as well as the Venom storyline I’ve wanted. Kris found an awesome hardcover collection of Elektra & Wolverine: The Redeemer which is gorgeously illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano.
