Dirty Dealings

I’m not a car guy. A car is just something that gets me from Point A to Point B. As such, I don’t spend a lot of time on my care and it shows.

DC has been trickling out their solicitations for Flashpoint related books for the past couple of weeks. On Monday, they finally released the full solicitations for June. We’ve already talked a lot about the Flashpoint related books, which all sound awesome, so what about the rest of the DC Universe?

In the Green Lantern side of things, everybody is dealing with the conclusion and aftermath of War of the Green Lanterns. We’re still not clear what exactly the War of the Green Lanterns will be about, but based on the covers nobody is happy with the results. That’s Kyle’s broken mask John Stewart’s kneeling over. What does that mean? Is Kyle dead? Is he no longer a Green Lantern? Inquiring minds want to know!! Also, it looks like we get to see more Red Lantern Guy. Totally awesome.

Brightest Day ends in May, but that story isn’t quite over yet as a three issue mini-series called Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search starts in June. Some shadowy figure, a “reluctant hero making his return to the DCU,” is going on a search for something based on the outcome of Brightest Day. We’re not sure who it is, or what it is, but whatever is going on Batman and Superman aren’t happy about it. I read some wild speculation that somehow this is the return of Ted Kord and while I’d love to see Ted come back and he’s definitely been talked about a lot recently both in Generation Lost and Power Girl, I just don’t see him coming back. At this point, I really feel that there are two events in the DCU that will never get altered: Barbara Gordon will never walk again and Ted Kord will never return. Granted, people also thought they’d never bring Barry Allen back, so I guess we never really know for sure. The other interesting thing about this series is it’s being written by one of the Vertigo editors that was laid off last September. Really didn’t expect to see any of them associating with DC again, but I’m glad to see to it.

Grounded continues in Superman, making Superman still boring. However, Paul Cornell gets to write Superman vs Doomsday in Action Comics. Cornell’s done an amazing job with Lex Luthor over the past year. If he writes Superman in Action as well, he’ll quickly outshine everything in Grounded.

I’m really looking forward to the Batgirl/Squire team up in Batgirl #22. I love both of the characters and I think their wit and charm will complement each other nicely. I expect that will be a very fun read. The mysterious hooded female companion of Ra’s Al Ghul in Red Robin looks to be Ra’s sister. I was really hoping that it would be the return of Nyssa, but we’ll see what happens. Finally, June sees the end of Wonder Woman’s “Odyssey” storyline. This story, like Grounded, slowly soured and fizzled over the past year. It’ll be good to see this end and to see what’s going to happen next.
