The Loneliest Number

Travis Wednesday was a really busy day for Kris and I, so somethings slipped away.
NBC has announced that Adrianne Palicki will play Wonder Woman in the new David Kelly WW TV series. Ret-Conned HQ has pretty much decided that like the Halle Berry Catwoman film, this show does not exist. Personally, I can’t see how the man that brought us the abomination that was Alley McBeal can do justice to Wonder Woman. Granted, there’s legitimate concern whether DC Comics is currently doing justice to Wonder Woman, so maybe it won’t be as bad as we imagine. I’ve never seen Palicki in anything, but Kris said she’s seen her guest star in an episode of Criminal Minds. He said that she played a great heroine addicted serial killer, but that doesn’t exactly scream Amazon Princess.
If you can think back all the way to 2010, you might remember that Disney acquired Marvel. BOOM! Studios has quite successfully been doing Disney licensed comics for a while now and we speculated whether The House of Mouse was going to reclaim that property for the House of M to work with. Well, it’s officially happened as all of the Pixar related licenses are now going to be handled by Marvel. They’re going to start with a oversized magazine tied in with Cars, just in time for Cars 2 this summer. The Boom! Studios Incredibles book will stop mid-arc, but there have been no announcements on when or if Marvel will restart that book. Boom! also lost the The Muppet Show license, but again with no word for what Marvel will do with the property, if anything.
Have no fear Boom! readers, as it does appear that they still own the rights to “Disney Classic” and “Disney Afternoon” properties. This means that the Gnome’s favorite Darkwing Duck will continue as well as their Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers. As a way to emphasize this, Boom! announced today that they will be starting a Duck Tales monthly title. I’m betting we’ll be seeing plenty of Duck Tales/Darkwing Duck crossovers in months to come.
While neither Kris nor I made it to the comic shop, the Gnome was awesome enough to go for us so we can still bring you our pull lists.
Travis, what’s on your pull list?
- Darkwing Duck #9
- Tiny Titans #37 - SHAZAM! I say just to startle you. I want my own bow tie wearing talking tiger because bow ties are cool.
Travis, what’s on Kris’s pull list?
- Batman #707 - I wonder if this will link up with May’s Gates of Gotham mini series. Tam Fox is showing up all over the place.
- Booster Gold #41 - Not sure where Giffen is going with this arc.
- Brightest Day #20 - This issue is dedicated to all those people who ever made fun of Aquaman for being lame. He’s going to find you and beat you with his bloody stump.
- Green Lantern #62 - Hal makes Hard Decisions and the editors can’t tell Batman Batman from Other Batman Batman.
- Green Lantern Corps #57 - Hey, remember me? Firestorm? You know, I’m running around trying to stop the Black Lanterns from using the White Lantern for Mondo Evil? Just wanted to pop in and say “Hi!”
- Justice League of America #54 - Kris said it best when he saw the preview: Seeing shots of the old JLA makes you realize how bad the current JLA line-up is. The fact that you never actually see the JLA in this issue doesn’t help.
- Legion of Super-Heroes #10
- Outsiders #36 - Thunder and Grace are back and spend the whole issue in their underwear, because that’s just how they roll. Also, Didio hasn’t been reading the last 15 months of JSA enough to understand its current roster.
- Ratchet And Clank #6
- Spider-Girl #4 - This issue starts a new story arc and with it a new artist. The art was absolutely horrible. I had major problems distinguishing some characters and facial expressions were very muddled.
- Supergirl #61 - Everything is improved when Damien’s around.
- Superman/Batman #81
- Uncanny X-Force #5
- Wolverine and Jubilee
- Wonder Woman #607 - I’ve gotten so ambivalent about this story line I can’t even decide if this issue was good or bad.
- Young Justice #1 - I think this comic takes place between episodes one and two of the show. Considering I’ve only seen episode six, I was a little lost. Seemed interesting, but the Young Justice team is a weird mix of characters from different time periods in the DCU.
