Chocolate Traitor

Trav is out of town, and he’s a little possessive of some of the food left at his house.

There has been a lot of talk about the digital revolution in comics lately. On January 1st DC has their digital Batman 101 event. It offered Batman #600 through #700 for $.99 each. While this seems like a great event, it brought out a lot of problems in digital comics.

Batman #600 is the start of the “Bruce Wayne: Fugitive” arc which spun out of the “Bruce Wayne: Murderer.” While this would be a great thing to have, the arc takes place across several different Bat-book, none of which are are available digitally. This happens throughout this run of Batman. This just goes to show that digital might benefit more from offering trades and arc rather than runs of issues.

Another problem that Trav has come across recently is the lack of organization in the Comixology Comic App. All the comics are listed individually by alphabet and not grouped by series. If you were to buy all 101 issues from Batman 101, you’d have to scroll through all of them to get to your first issue of Y: The Last Man. While this isn’t a problem with digital comics as a whole, it show that we are currently pretty limited with our access to comics digitally.

One of the big things brought up by Comic Alliance is the ownership of comics bought digitally. I think this is really my biggest hold up when it comes to buying digitally. Collecting comics is part of the fun, and not being able to have free access to what you buy and not being able to share it with your friends.

I’m becoming more and more open to digital comics and I really enjoyed reading the first few issues of Walking Dead on Tiff’s iPad. I love the high resolution and ability to zoom, but I still feel like it has a long, long way to go before it becomes more than a novelty. I want digital to become part of the current comic scene in the way trades have.

I know this is the second week we’re not having out pull list comments put up on Friday, but I promise we will have them Monday after I take my four day weekend to catch up on my reading.
