I'll save you!

Travis Comic shops tend to have a reputation of being dark and dank, filled with unwashed fat guys who freak out at the opportunity to talk to a woman. One of the reasons that we really love Bedrock City is that they strive to not be that kind of comic shop. Every Bedrock is very well lit, sparkling clean and filled with staff that are knowledgeable and very helpful regardless of your gender, age, or interest in comics. We’re at Bedrock at least once a week, so from our perspective the Bedrock City Comic Experience is our Comic Shop Experience. We always forget about the Traditional Comic Shop Experience until we visit one of the other comic shops in town. The contrast is even starker at times like this weekend when we visited Bedrock looking for some comics and then went to one of the other comic shops that also include gaming supplies. We haven’t been in this shop for a while and had forgotten how creepy it feels. The dank smell of mildewing paper when we first walked in was overpowering; it was quite sad. Any time we actually buy comics at one of the other stores, both Kris and I feel like we’re “rescuing” that comic and giving it a good home.
You’ll notice that this new comic is going up on Wednesday instead of the traditional Tuesday. Kris and I talked about it and decided we have enough stories to tell that we want to increase our output to three comics a week. So, starting today expect new comics every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. the “What’s on your Pull List?” feature that we were doing on Thursday is going to move to Friday. Even though that means that it’s two whole days after comics come out that week, it’ll give us more time to actually read everything through and give you our honest opinions about them. On the weeks when we were pulling a lot of stuff, it was a lot of work on a Wednesday night to both create Thursday’s comic and read enough of the comics to reasonably comment on them. Above all things, comics should never be work.
A friend pointed out last week that Thursday’s comic was the first time that any character in the comic has referred to another character by name. It surprised Kris and I because we’ve been referring to these characters by name for so long that it’s just natural for us and we never realized that we hadn’t properly introduced the characters. I’m putting together a cast page with mini-bios for all the characters in the Ret-Conned universe, both those that you’ve already met and others that we’ll introduce later. Starting Monday, I’m going to feature a different character in each of the upcoming blog posts. As a brief introduction, the guy with the goatee is Al and his clean-shaven buddy is Kyle. Al is married to a very understanding woman called Gnome. Stay tuned for more!
