Surprise!

Travis We’ve been really frustrated with Grant Morrison and Batman & Robin recently. While we’ll accept that Morrison is a good writer, he seems to care little about fitting his story telling into the greater existent universe. Why use one of the myriad villains already in Batman’s rogue’s gallery when he could invent his own? Why not change 70 years of character development to fit his story? Grant Morrison has decided to do whatever he feels like doing, the rest of the universe (and the rest of the writers) be damned. There are five books that are, at least in a small way, connected to the prelude of Return of Bruce Wayne. Four of those books are written as part of a collective universe, Batman & Robin is just out there on it’s own. The end of Batman & Robin #12 was a surprise because it does not make sense. Maybe I just like the idea of the Joker returning just after Bruce as a nod to all the claims and concerns that Bruce created the Joker, but Sexton as Joker is a joke. All in all, the Batman & Robin story has just seemed too isolated and random to be so vital to the RoBW, which will affect the entire Batman universe, when the other books have carried their share of the story. Kris is avoiding Return of Bruce Wayne altogether. I’ll at least pick up the first issue, but I make no guarantees I’ll stick with it.
I admit it, I am not a big Superman fan but I am loving War of the Supermen. We’re just a quarter of the way through and we’ve already started things off in a very upsetting and dramatic way. The preview for tomorrow’s second issue looks like it will continue the awesome. I’m most interested to see what happens to Supergirl by the end of this, because she’s in a very bad place right now.
This weekend is our Friendly Local Comic Shop’s summer sale. So if you’re in the Houston area this weekend, make sure to go by any of the four convenient Bedrock City Comics locations for some great deals. The Gnome and I are in heated negotiations about what we’ll be getting. Expect a full sale report next week.
Between Brightest Day (aka shit just ain’t right), War of the Supermen (aka we blew everyone up just to get started), Justice League: Generation Lost (aka aw yeah, we’re getting the band back together), and the sale (aka WHHHHEEEEEE!!!!), this is becoming a great month for comics.
