Travis This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day! For those of you unfamiliar with it, FCBD is the one day a year that participating comic shops give away free comics. It’s a promotional deal that the industry started a couple of years back and has become a really neat way to experiment and get introduced to new comics. A lot of the comic shops get really into it by having sales, signings, prizes and other fun stuff. Even if comics aren’t “your thing,” we highly recommend that you look up your local participating comic shop and go. If you’re in the Houston area, all four Bedrock City Comics locations are participating.
The Ret-Conned crew is actually going to pack up and drive to Dragon’s Lair in Austin for FCBD. They’re going to have Brian Clevinger, the writer of the super awesome Atomic Robo (one of the best comics published right now), signing books, as well as several other people. Free comics AND getting Clevinger to sign my Atomic Robo #1? Aw yeah, it’ll be an awesome day!
Travis, what’s on your pull list?
- Detective Comics #864 - Arkham Asylum is one of my favorite parts of the Gotham. This wraps up a story started in Battle for the Cowl and continued in Arkham Reborn. Can’t wait.
- Gotham City Sirens #11 - Paul Dini writing Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn? No question. Plus, it’s one of the Gnome’s favorite reads.
Kris, what’s on your pull list?
- Action Comics #889 - This book has been kind of hit and miss but the Nightwing and Flamebird arc is ending with a bang.
- Detective Comics #864 - Detective Comics without Greg Rucka or Batwoman. Regardless of how good the book is, I can’t help but think less of it.
- Gotham City Sirens #11 - Paul Dini is the reason I’m a DC Comics Fan. And Harley Quinn is the reason I’m a lot of things.
- Green Lantern Corps #47 - I honestly never thought I would be a Guy Gardner fan, but this book has put him in my top 5.
- Justice League: The Rise of Arsenal #2 (of 4) - We kind of forgot about this book until we saw it on my pull list.
- Justice Society of America #38 - JSA vs. Nazis? Yes please!
- The Outsiders #29 - Still unsure about the direction this book took after Blackest Night.
- Superman #699 - This, along with Last Stand, finish up Brainiac’s attack and lead directly into War of the Supermen. Which I expect to be epic.
- Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton #3 (of 3)
- Teen Titans #82 - An average book with a good second feature, until Bart and Connor returned. Kid Flash and Superboy have already upped the quality.
- Wonder Woman #43 - Gail Simone is quickly becoming the #1 must read writer in the DCU.
