Travis When engaged in a fierce battle of wills, it’s important to properly size up your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. If he smells your fear, then you’ve already lost.
I’m a big fan of Twitter and have been using it since early 2006, before it got really big. (One advantage of being a tech nerd is you learn about the coolest new stuff before everybody else does.) In fact, Twitter is very important in the creation of Ret-Conned, because it was through Twitter that Kris and I found each other again after drifting apart for a couple of years. Long story short is Twitter == Awesome at Ret-Conned HQ, which is why I was really excited to learn about the latest convergence of Comics and Twitter and very disappointed that I completely missed it when it happened.
Anyway, one of the users on Twitter is a big fan of Lois Lane and felt that after so long in Superman’s shadow, it was time that Lois got the recognition she deserved. To this end, in October she started the @loislaneverse Twitter account to discuss the awesomeness of Metropolis’s star reporter. A Tumblr account soon followed and interest started to gain momentum. Finally, it was decided that December 12 was to be Lois Lane Appreciation Day with an attempt to make the #LoisLaneSeries hash tag a trending topic. Not only did they successfully get the topic trending, but they soon attracted the attention of many comic creators on Twitter including Gail Simone, Sterling Gates, and Greg Rucka. The topic continued all over Twitter, building up momentum and then first thing Monday morning comes this from the official DC Twitter account:
Appreciate all the support you guys have for a #LoisLaneSeries - we’ll let the folks in DCU editorial know you’re interested.
It sounds like that DC is very receptive to the discussions raised by the #LoisLaneSeries event. I’m not sure that this means that a Lois Lane series would happen, but I definitely think that the chances of it have definitely increased. Ret-Conned HQ would totally support such an endeavour. As a filler in the Grounded storyline in Superman, G. Willow Wilson did a comic focused on Lois Lane and her side in the Lois & Clark relationship. I personally feel that it was the best issue of the Grounded series and was very disappointed that it was only a single issue. If the new series is going to bring more light on that side of the Superman/Clark Kent relationship, then I definitely hope that DC makes this into a real series.
