100

This is our 100th comic. It doesn’t feel like we’ve been doing this too long. I mean, we just started just in time to prep for Free Comic Book Day. Then one realizes that was in May and now it’s December and people are starting to invite you to Christmas parties. When you partition your life into the days between comics, things can go pretty fast. We talked about it and decided we wanted to do something really special to mark the milestone. Unfortunately, we couldn’t think of anything.

Wednesday was the first time in four weeks that Kris and I were able to go to the comic shop together to get our comics. With Thanksgiving, long work schedules, sickness, and the general craziness that Life tends to throw at you, we had a really hard time getting together. While walking into Bedrock together, saying hi to Dave, Derrick, Laura and the gang is definitely a fun thing, not going to the comic shop together mainly means we haven’t had the time to just sit and talk about comics. We got to do that too, and it was pretty awesome. We’ve realized that there’s several things that we’ve picked up over the past couple of weeks that we just haven’t had time to read and need to get caught up on.

Kris has also started dabbling in some Marvel stories that he thinks I should check out. I enjoyed reading some Marvel stuff back in the day, but there was something about the current story lines with last year’s Dark Reign and this new vampire thing that has completely uninterested me. Kris has been enjoying Uncanny X-Force and the new X-23 book. I’m also really intrigued that they brought Carnage back and by their rumored plans for Venom’s reappearance.

When we were at Bedrock, we ran into Kris’s brother picking up Fables 100. I knew they were hitting the big milestone this week, but I hadn’t realized it was going to be in an oversized, nicely bound book. I’ve always been intrigued by Fables, but never had a chance to read it. Maybe Nick will take it to Kris’s place when he goes home for Christmas break and it “disappears” for a while. Who knows? Speaking of Nick, Ret-conned’s official Social Media Guru, he’d be want me to suggest that you Like or Friend or whatever the nomenclature is Ret-Conned on Facebook. Check out the link on the right and drop by our page to say hi before he makes me try to join FB. I’m sure we all agree it’s a safer place if I stay away.

Thanks for reading and helping us get to the big one zed zed. Let’s see if we can double it!

Travis, what’s on your pull list?

  • Batgirl #16 - This issue was filled with lots of great Stephanie-Babs banter. I’m really intrigued by the rogue’s gallery that Batgirl is starting to build up.
  • Detective Comics Annual #12 - What’s the French for Batman? Plus, the first time someone has brought up The Question’s Mark of Cain since Rucka left DC. I was afraid they were just going to ignore that.
  • House of Mystery #32
  • Knight & Squire #3 - This was the first K&S that I enjoyed. It was a fun and funny romp through British super-heroing. Exactly what I was hoping this series would be.
  • Red Robin #18 - This is the first thing I’ve read with Red Star in it - very interesting character. I’m also really enjoying Anarky-turned-Spider-Monkey, the Comatose Hacker.
  • Tiny Titans/Little Archie #3
