Packing Heat

Kris Trav is off at 360iDev this week so I’m taking over the blog. I decided to try something a little different with the art for today’s Ret-Conned and when I asked Trav about it, he didn’t seem to have any problems with it. Let me know what you think. I’ll probably try a few different style before I settle on any changes.
We recently got into a discussion about TV show runs. When should a TV show call it a day and go peacefully into that good night? Trav has repeatedly expressed his love for the traditional anime plan of having your story written out from the beginning and stopping once that story is told. I understand the appeal of this format, but I think some shows, like sitcoms and police procedurals, shouldn’t be bound by this. Sitcoms, of course, are bound by a different rule. A sitcom’s originality is the core of it’s humor, and that, by definition, will fade with time.
How I Met Your Mother seems to be reaching this point. It’s now in it’s sixth season and still enjoyable, but it feels like something is missing. This could be a lot of things, from the actor’s growing tired to the writer’s running out of material. IGN said in their review of last week’s epsiode that Jason Segel has stated “he’s ready to move on from the series.” I wasn’t able to find a source for this, so take it with a grain of salt. I know Alyson Hannigan and NPH both have young children, so I would presume they are grateful for the steady work and schedule a sitcom can provide. It will be interesting to see where the show goes in the next season.
I’ll be handling the blog again on Wednesday in addition to my thoughts on my pull list from the past week. See you then.
