Childhood Crushes

Travis Who or what could be on the security tape?
We’ve mentioned repeatedly our local comic shop Bedrock City and how much we love it. So, much to our surprise we find it’s made the news in the weirdest way. Apparently, there was a Houston comic book theft ring that were stealing high priced comic from various shops around the area. Go watch the police report and you can learn all about it.
Richard, the guy interviewed in the news report, is the owner and manager of the main Bedrock City location (the Westheimer location for you Houstonites). Kris and I have been to that one and like it, but spend most of our time and money at the Washington branch. When I picked up my comics, I made sure to ask them about it. Of the four BRC locations, Westheimer was the only one that was robbed, since it has all of the extremely rare, high priced comics. The thieves not only hit BRC, but at least four other comic shops in the area.
Obviously, the comic shop owners community is a pretty tight-knit group, so when one place was robbed, they let the other shops know what had been taken. They caught the thieves because they tried to sell comics they stole at one shop to another shop. Clearly, Lex Luthor the thieves were not.
Next week’s Thanksgiving, so we’re going to take a mini-break and do something a little bit different. Hopefully it’ll be amusing enough that it’ll make you giggle even in the L-tryptophan stupor that you should all be in.
Travis, what’s on your pull list?
- Batman The Return #1 - Grant Morrison has decided that he’s going to tell crazy fun Batman stories and it doesn’t matter how ridiculous it gets because it’s Batman and supposed to be fun.
- Batman Streets of Gotham #17 - Dini does what Dini does best, weaving a complicated story with fabulous characters.
- Darkwing Duck #6 - Not as funny as previous issues, but we’re moving the plot along.
- Tiny Titans #34 - I’m craving some Aqua-O’s!
Kris, what’s on your pull list?
- Azrael #14 - Azrael finally links back to the scene in issue #1 and ties into Batman. I thought about dropping this book, but it’s picked up a bit. I’m going to keep at it and see where it goes.
- Batman #704
- Batman Inc #1 - Morrison is definitely having fun in the wake of Bruce’s return and this book shows it.
- Batman The Return #1 - A little fast paced, but Morrison had a lot of ground to cover. The best shot is Bruce in the cave with his most trusted allies, Oracle plus four Robins.
- Batman Streets of Gotham #17 - The Ragman back up is weak, but could lead to better thing. Dini’s story is great, but its short. I don’t know where Dini has been, but if he ever decides to really get back into the game, it will be a good thing.
- Brightest Day #14 - A great Deadman story, and it moved along the White Lantern arc a lot. This book should have been multiple monthly series, not a single bi-weekly. Hopefully it will pick up from here to the end.
- DCU Legacies #7 - An oddly fast retelling of Knightfall and the Death of Superman. This book has been good, but the pacing seemed way off in this issue. The Camelot back up was very good.
- The Flash #6 - A good end to the arc, and it has a good hook, tying it into a lot of the different events going on right now. Flashpoint might possibly be the biggest event we’ve seen in a while.
- Green Lantern #59 - Wow, this issue was mostly talking heads, but it seemed necessary. A lot of things from Blackest Night needed to be discussed and clarified. Fortunately, it seems like the next issue will be a big deal.
- Green Lantern Corps #54 - I love the Weaponer. He’s a villain because he attacked Kyle and Sora, but he did so to get a Sinestro, who’s really a villain. Also the fist fight between Kyle and Sinestro was great and could of had its own issue.
- Justice League of America #51 - Lots of cameos and a good story. I’m loving the new arc and can’t wait for the next issue.
- Legion of Super-Heroes #7
- Nightmaster: Monsters of Rock #1
- Power Girl #18 - I think Judd Winick takes Ted Kord’s death personally. The amount of emotion he puts into Power Girl’s outrage is great. I hope this leads to something big involving Ted, but at the same time I don’t want him brought back.
- Ratchet & Clank #3
- Spider-girl #1
- Supergirl #58
- Superman #705
- Superman/Batman #78
- X-23 #3
- Zatanna #7
