Mmm Cheesy Fries

Kyle’s pool adventure continues, and what’s this? A new player has entered the ring!

The Legion of Super-Heroes has long been a fixture of DCU continuity. If you haven’t heard of the Legion, they’re essentially a group of super powered teenagers from different planets all over the universe that banded together to imitate their hero Superman. Their merry band of members are run off of very democratic ideals, including having an elected president that presides and organizes the rest of the team. In the current Legion series, it’s been mentioned a couple of times that the Legion election was coming up soon and there have been several discussions between members trying to determine who are currently “active members” of the Legion that are eligible to be elected. While interesting, it’s definitely been a minor side story greatly overshadowed by many other plot points.

Well, all of that changed last week as DC announced that open voting has begun to elect the next Legion leader. Voting continues through November 10 and after that the new Legion leader will take his/her/its place at the head of the Legion conference table. Here at Ret-Conned HQ, after an intense debate and careful weighing of all the important qualities necessary for a good Legion leader, we picked the who we each thought was the hottest Legionaire that we wanted to see more of. Kris picked Phantom Girl and I ended up voting for Shadow Lass (it was a close call between her and Dawnstar, but blue skin is in).

Granted, it might not matter at all. Kris thinks that Chameleon Boy will become the new Legion leader. The main storyline has focused heavily on Earth’s xenophobia and distrust of alien races, especially shape-shifters like the Durlans. Meanwhile, the Durlans are in the midst of a civil war, one faction of which doesn’t trust Earth and the United Planets. Kris thinks that either the election will be conveniently fixed so that Chameleon Boy is large and in charge to help bring peace to Durla while demonstrating to Earth that non-human aliens can be trusted or that a crisis will occur such that whoever is duly elected will step down and Chameleon Boy will step in. Either way, it’ll be very interesting to see what happens come November 11.
