Travis If somebody decides to put this to music, they will win ONE MILLION Ret-Conned Points from me because you are just that AWESOME.
There’s all sorts of comic-movie related news flowing out in the Interwebz, so I think we’re going to do a grab bag of things talking about that. The biggest comic book movie stuff that we’re really excited about at Ret-Conned HQ is the Green Lantern movie. The official website is the biggest piece of useless Flash animation I have seen in a very long time, which I’m hoping is not an indication of how the actual product will turn out. The rumor is that if you decompile the Flash code, there is some sort of hidden information in it. I’ve never worked with Flash, so I haven’t checked it out myself, but it sounds very Paul Is Dead to me. The first trailer for Green Lantern will be run before the release of Harry Potter Strikes Again, which is just in time for Kris’s birthday. He’s very excited.
We’ve talked previously about how Warner Bros plans to leverage DC Comics characters as their new blockbuster material once Harry Potter Once More With Feeling is released and they definitely have the wheels rolling. It sounds like the writers who did the original Green Lantern script are already working on both a Flash script and Green Lantern 2. There’s also already rumors about casting Barry Allen with the runner-up to play Hal Jordan. I know it is way too early to be thinking about it, but a movie that’s been dubbed a cross between the Matrix and Se7en (since Barry Allen’s day job is in CSI) staring the guy from The Hangover doesn’t sound quite right. I really hope this movie figures out a plan and turns out well or else all I’m going to hear from Kris is how much better it could have been if they had used Wally instead of Barry.
As if Ryan Reynolds won’t be busy enough making Green Lantern 2, there’s also talk of his reprising the role of Wade Wilson to do a Deadpool movie. Personally, I avoided X-Men Origins: Wolverine like the plague, so I have no preconceived notions for how truly awlful that representation of Deadpool was supposed to be. Those who claim to be working on the project insist it will be more faithful to the comic and ignore the Merc with a Mouth’s previous appearance. If both are successful, it’ll be interesting to see how Ryan Reynolds handles being the head of a comic book movie franchise for both of the Big Two publishers. Of course, no one says that Hal Jordan has to be in GL2. It could be that GL2 focuses on one of the other Green Lanterns from Sector 2814. After all, John Stewart does appear in the first film (bonus points for using an actor who’s a real marine). I would totally go see a GL movie staring Guy Gardner. That would just be too awesome.
